Tell us about the attack

My 13-year-old golden retriever on a leash was attacked by neighbor’s pit bull that ran out of their home to attack when their door was opened. I covered her with my body and ended up with stitches on my head. My dog had severe puncture wounds and her thick fur saved her life. She survived after a $2,000 vet bill.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
It will never be the same for me anymore. When I see a pit bull all the horrible memories of that day come back. I am terrified taking my dogs for walk and won’t do it now without a taser. I often cry thinking of that day and when I see other innocent victims of pit bulls.

Legal Consequences
The owner was not fined and never paid my vet bill.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
I want people to be more responsible when they own dangerous breed of dogs  such as pit bulls because while little dogs can bite, they won’t kill. I wish breeding of certain breeds was more strict. I am tired of the ignorant owners who refuse to acknowledge the statistics of these attacks.
