Pit bull owner says pit bull is safe right before it rips a person’s nose off

Name: Rlg
Victim: Adult
Location: City Hall, exiting the council chambers, Missouri
Year of attack: 2021

Tell us about the attack

A group of us had finished a Rotary meeting which because of Covid was being held in the alderman chambers. The meeting ended and we were all exiting. A woman and her husband were walking two dogs, one of which was a pit bull.  She invited us to all pet the pit bull, saying that he was a good dog, etc. He was closest to me. I have a golden retriever and love dogs, so I reached down to pet the pit bull on its back, and it lunged up at me and ripped my nose off. The pit bull owner lied about vaccinations and license. I had to make the decision to pursue rabies shots. The dog was quarantined for 10 days. The police department did very little. Of course a pit bull is a bit prized here in this area (meth capital).

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
Paranoia about a lot more than just a dog. Sudden noises, etc., sleep problems, eating issues, headaches all the time, anxiety… angry about the entire fricking ordeal, had to got shots, not fun. Increase in fear of even my own dog, whom I love immensely… the whole thing sucks.

Legal Consequences
None yet. Apparently no one has insurance, so in essence I am screwed.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
Do not trust anyone with even the sweetest dogs. You just don’t freaking know what could happen, one inch one way or another, the dog would have grabbed my eye, or my jugular vein. Imagine if this had been a five or six year child. Dumb *ss lying owners should be strongly punished. Oh the owner lied about the vaccinations.
