Tell us about the attack

My 2-year-old German Shepard/lab mix, Harley, was out using the bathroom along with 2 other dogs that live in the household. They were under the supervision of my boyfriend and he noticed something running up onto the property. It was another dog and it was barking and running heading straight towards our house. This dog runs up on the property and breaks down the enclosure that the dogs were in and attacks my dog. He goes straight for her neck while my dog fights back and yelps for help. I have never had an encounter of her attacking another dog so this was a first for us. This dog just so happened to be a male pit bull and he had one intention when attacking my dog. It took about 5 minutes until we were able to get this pit bull off my dog and my poor girl ran into the house scared for her life.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
This event was so traumatic to me that I still think about the attack until this day and I am always constantly outside watching my dog’s every move to make sure she is safe being on our property. My dog until this day is now scared to use the bathroom because of what happened and she won’t even go where the other dogs go. She uses the bathroom on the porch because that’s where she feels the most safe. Never thought there would be a day where I’d have to worry about any dog hurting my dog and it had to be a pit bull too.

Legal Consequences
Filed a report on the incident and the county animal control didn’t do a damn thing. They supposedly gave the pit bull owner a warning but they told me that they couldn’t put the pit bull down or take him away. What happens if that pit bull comes back? What am I supposed to do then? The county that I live in is so lazy and won’t do a thing because they just wanna get paid to sit on their butts. I have posted my GoFundMe with more information on the story and if you’d like to donate.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
I’d like any and everyone to know that they should always keep an eye on their dog and make sure they are in a safe and secure place so other dogs or animals on the outside can’t get in. Be sure you know what to do during a pit bull attack because I had no idea what I was doing but it took some driftwood to the head for that thing to let go.
