Tell us about the attack
Libby (12 lb Schnauzer terrier mix) was being walked by the dog sitter when she was attacked by an approximately 90 lb black and white pit bull. The dog sitter also sustained injuries trying to get Libby away from the pit bull. Libby was hospitalized for 2 days. She was too weak for surgery and had a stroke and stopped breathing at points during her care. She was barely hanging on to life when we arrived and was euthanized soon after. Libby had been with us for over 8 years.
How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
Libby was my 13-year-old daughter’s best friend. They grew up together. She was a sweet dog and loyal buddy. Her quirky ways would keep us laughing. The house isn’t the same without her running around. My daughter especially will miss her cuddles and kisses. Trips to Home Depot — one of her favorite places — will never be the same.
Legal Consequences
The pit bull disappeared. I notified my local Animal Control.
What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
The pit bull is dangerous and I hope that the pit bull owners are aware and are somehow held accountable for their pit bull’s behavior. I also pray that the pit bull will not have an opportunity to hurt any other living creature in the future.
