Tell us about the attack

7th September 2022. My wife and I were in our Airbnb, sitting on a couch along with Havanese dog, Pepe. I heard another resident calling his pit bull to come down. I got up to check and my dog followed. The pit was quickly leaving my room with one of Pepe’s toys. Pepe came up to the pit, in a passive way. The pit dropped the toy, and grabbed Pepe by the throat, drug him to a hallway and started thrashing Pepe like a wet towel. His owner ran up, started yelling and beating both sides of his pit. My wife was screaming. The pit was going for death. I grabbed the jaws of the pit and she finally let Pepe go. Pepe was very close to death.

We rushed Pepe to the animal hospital. They sedated him, shaved the area. There were three punctures on his throat and one on his ear. They stitched Pepe in three places and put a body suit.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
We are still in shock. Pepe is slowly recovering. He is scared and has had nightmares the past two nights. We have had little sleep as well. Today we were on the same couch. Pepe started uncontrollably shaking. He had just seen the pit out the front window. We calmed him down. A short time later I took Pepe on a walk and he wouldn’t come back. I had to carry him the couple blocks back. We are concerned he will never be the same again. In that moment, I wanted to kill the pit. We are moving to a different Airbnb till our home is ready on the 7th of October 2022.

Legal Consequences
Unfortunately we met the pit bull owning couple a few days ago at the Airbnb. We went to their church this Sunday, followed by going to lunch with them. My wife is much more understanding than I, so we have not pressed charges. The owners paid half of the first veterinarian charge.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
I hate pit bulls and will never trust one again. They should be outlawed for good. STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE FROM PIT BULLS!!!! I can’t imagine anyone owning one. I can’t believe the owner allowed the stupid pit to be in an Airbnb unleashed!!! Total neglect. The owner said it was all his fault and he is 100% correct. I am struggling now seeing him, his wife or their killer pit bull.
