Mini Golden

My mini-golden was killed at a doggie day care that accepts pit bulls

Tell us about the attack

I left my mini-golden dog, Barry, at the doggie day care he had been going to for a few months. I got a call as I was driving back home from the owner. She was hysterically crying and told me that Barry was dead! I couldn’t believe it. He was put out unattended with a pit bull and the pit bull snapped and bit Barry’s lungs until he died. My 78-year-old mom went down to the day care to see what happened and they called the police. I thought it was to investigate the dangerous dog. It turns out that the police officer only did a report about my aged mom going down there, and never even bothered to look into the dangerous pit bull.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
I lost my best friend. When I came home that day, I had no one. This was probably the saddest day of my life.

Legal Consequences
I received monetary compensation from the day care owner. She later sold the business. The police officer never investigated the pit bull under our ordinance. The pit bull was then immediately taken in by a dog day care in Park Rapids, Minnesota. I was told smugly by the owner of that day care that she knew how to handle killer pit bulls, and patronizingly, that my asking her to remove the pit bull was just part of my “grieving process”.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
That pit bulls should be removed from the planet forever. There is no such thing as a safe pit bull. People who defend pit bulls, own them, sell, breed or buy them are fools.
