Friendly pit bull

Friendly pit bull launches out-of-the blue, unprovoked attack

Name: Summer
Victim: Adult
Location: Friend’s house, Texas
Year of attack: 2021

Tell us about the attack

I had been around my friend’s pit bull a lot. The pit had always been sweet, playful, pretty chill. I spent the night at their house every week, multiple days and was always around it. He’d always greet me at the door with his tail wagging, kisses, and his favorite toy. He’d sleep on me and everything.

One evening, while I was sitting at the table quietly eating, without warning or provocation I felt a tug on my shirt and stood up and the pit bull latched on to my arm, pulling me. I yelled at my friend to get him off and he let go as I got behind my other friend and their dad ran in, trying to keep the pit bull off us and had us against the wall, shielding us. The pit bull somehow got between his legs and bit my leg. They tossed the pit bull out of the room. My arm and leg were bitten completely open. 14 stitches and 14 puncture wounds

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
I’m now traumatized. I’m afraid to be around dogs. I was afraid of my own dogs for a while even though they’ve never done anything. I have nightmares nearly every night now.

Legal Consequences
We filed a report. Animal control did nothing. The pit bull owners were not fined and were allowed to keep it. They have continued posting photos of their pit bull on social media like nothing ever happened. They keep it in a cage when people are over, I guess thinking that does something. But I will never go over there again until that pit bull is gone.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
They are animals first, pets second. Be sensitive to pit bull attack victims, it’s serious, it’s scary, and it needs to be dealt with appropriately. Nobody wants to face the reality of an aggressive pit bull especially when we love them, but if the pit bull is aggressive, he’ll attack again.
