This is a follow-up to a dog attack that happened in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. The attack occurred on June 21, 2019. The case was heard in court on March 5, 2020, as the defendant (the pit bull’s owner) wanted to challenge the charges that the city laid upon him. A decision from the court was delivered on July 17, 2020.

Legal Consequences
The pit bull owner was found guilty. “In giving his decision, Judge Donovan Molloy said McNiven, a local lawyer [Ed: the pit bull owner], was not a credible witness.”

Charges were laid August 21, 2020.

McNiven, the pit bull owner, was fined $500. [Ed: note that fine revenues go to the government, not to the victims.] “Judge Donovan Molloy also ordered McNiven to always have his dog muzzled even when in his yard. He also must always have his dog on a leash no longer than 2.5 metres long. McNiven must also notify officials of his conviction if he moves to another municipality. The lawyer for the City of Yellowknife, Keith Sulzer, asked that the dog be destroyed because of the length and severity of the attack.
