Tell us about the attack
Oct 1st, 2021- 3:40PM. As I was viewing my backyard landscape, I heard screaming and a dog viciously barking. My head raised and turned to the intersection that is 200ft away. An elderly senior female was being attacked on the sidewalk, laying on the ground bleeding and screaming, by a 3-year-old black and white pit bull. Neighbors came running to her rescue, I called 911. Police, ambulance and dog warden arrived in minutes. The pit bull owner fought for an hour against giving up the pit bull to the dog warden for a 10-day quarantine. The elderly victim was sent to hospital for massive bites and injuries for a week. Springfield, Missouri has a ordinance to keep all pit bulls muzzled and caged when outdoors. https://www.springfieldmo.gov/2904/Dogs
How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
I take my dog for fewer walks and in more secluded areas. I now carry a variety of self defense items.
The pit bull owner was fined $500.00 for first attack. Fines will double per attack. [Ed: note that the fine revenues do not go to the victim.]
What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
I posted news of this pit bull attack on www.nextdoor.com within a couple of hours to alert neighbors. Boy oh boy, did I ever get attacked on www.nextdoor.com by every pit bull owner and my warning post was taken down. There was not one post which came to the defense of or expressed condolences for the elderly victim.
