Tell us about the attack

While at a friend’s home, the friend’s pit bull severely attacked 3-year-old Evie. Evie was life-flighted twice: once to Morristown, and then to Philadelphia. The extent of her injuries are severe.

She is extremely lucky to be alive but did suffer serious injuries. Her lung has collapsed, and she has multiple lacerations to her face, loss of her nose and her ear. This will require extensive plastic surgery for facial reconstruction, amongst many other medical procedures.

In addition to this, Kali and Eric (her parents) were trying extremely hard to save their baby girl, and in the process, they were attacked by the pit bull as well, which required medical attention. We are unsure how long Evie will be in Philadelphia, although we are being told it will be a while.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
Evie is still sedated in hospital and her parents injuries were luckily not as severe. The family has been shaken by the extent of her injuries and the trauma of the incident. Doctors say Evie will need surgery for at least next 18 years. This affects the family tremendously because of the medical treatments costs to come.

No matter how well you think you know your pit bull, always be cautious and take preventable steps around others.
