Pit bulls break into house, slaughter dogs in their own home

Saturday morning I got the most heart-wrenching call from my mom. She was screaming and crying, all she could get out was a mumbled sentence, something along the lines of “I just wanted to let you know those pit bulls broke into the house, I think Douglas, Princess (her dogs), and Tanner (her cat) are dead”.

Three pit bulls that lived down the street had came onto her property and INSIDE her home while she was not home. She came home to a BLOODY MESS and her house was so tore up. The pictures are seriously gut-wrenching, blood smeared all over furniture and walls and carpet and a few things even broken. She came eye-to-eye with the three pit bulls standing inside her own home and just could see blood everywhere and didn’t know what to do or think. She dropped the groceries she was carrying and ran back to her car and called my aunt and uncle to come over because she was so scared.

They found her two dogs Douglas and Princess hiding in the bathroom and thought Douglas was already dead because he looked so tore up but shortly after I got a call saying he was still alive and they were headed to Blue Pearl Pet Hospital with them.

Unfortunately Douglas had to be put to sleep upon arrival as he suffered from a potential broken shoulder, back, and neck PLUS all of the bite wounds. He was suffering too much.

We thought Princess was going to be alright, but they soon realized the bite wounds were worse than they initially thought. The vet said the bite on her neck was the worst she’s ever seen. They thought her canine tooth was missing but turns out it was lodged into her nasal cavity from trying to fight for their lives so hard. They got her all stitched up and she was swollen all over, but her oxygen levels were dropping over night so this morning she was unfortunately put to sleep as well.

Tanner the cat ended up showing back up. We believe he hid under the dresser and the pit bulls were too distracted by Douglas and Princess to notice him.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?

Tanner is definitely traumatized.  He constantly watches the door to see if those pit bulls are coming back. If he hears ANY noise, he runs and hides.

Both Douglas and Princess were loved by so many people. Princess was technically my brother’s family dog. When they moved here from Florida my mom kept her for them until they got a home suitable for her. My nieces weren’t ready to lose their dog before they even got to bring her home with them again.

Douglas was our family dog growing up, when my parents split he lived with my dad and would follow him out to the garage 24/7 and come home covered in grease. That was his baby. My dad is no longer alive and Douglas was one of our last connections with him. ☹️ After he passed Doug moved back in with my mom, and spent the rest of his life there. I’ll miss my yappy pup so very much.

Legal Consequences

I’m not sure what is happening with the pit bulls yet, but I promise you my family will get justice for these babies. This is not the first incident with these pit bulls around our neighborhood.

I let my dog, Pippa, outside to do her business in my front yard. It is completely fenced in and she doesn’t wander and I have never had an issue. I went to let her back in after 10 minutes and found her bleeding on my front doorstep and my neighbor’s two pit bulls running away. My husband and I rushed her to the vet, holding the skin of her neck and scalp on with my bare hands as she bled all over me. She didn’t make it after they tried to save her for several hours.

The pit bulls had made a hole in my fence and walked over half a mile from the gate to my house to attack my dog. I watched the security footage from my cameras and all Pippa did was try to run away and hide. At one point she crawls under my car and the pit bulls pull her back out and brutally attack her over and over.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
I am traumatized. I lost my best friend in the worst way possible, something she didn’t deserve. I no longer feel safe in my yard. I can’t leave my house and see the area she was attacked without breaking down. I haven’t left my bed in the three weeks since it happened.

Still working on it with animal control.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
Pit bulls are not misunderstood. Dogs were bred for certain characteristics and pit bulls are bred for fighting, mauling and killing. The only people that seem to “misunderstand” that are pit bull owners. Dog breed prejudice doesn’t exist: we created them to be this way.

I am not advocating to euthanize all pit bulls, but I do agree with the control laws other countries have made: requiring special licenses to own them, euthanize them in shelters, and mandatory sterilization till they eventually disappear.

On Friday Oct 21, 2022, a neighbor who lives two doors down was on vacation. He owns a male pit bull. His sister and her husband were house sitting, and with them, they had a female pit bull they are breeding with his male pit bull.

When they were visiting my neighbor a month ago, the female pit bull escaped somehow and entered my home and tried to kill my dog, Sammy, who only had three legs. The neighbor ran into my house and grabbed the pit bull. My little dog went flying across the living room but he survived.

Now a month later, the female pit bull decided to invade the house again to attack my dog a second time. My sister was there and called 911 and another neighbor tried to get the pit bull off but it was too late. The pit bull had its jaws firmly bitten into Sammy’s throat and shook him till he died.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
As I write this, this was only four days ago. I’m sick to my stomach. I’m going through waves of being scared, then sad, then mad. I can’t sleep: what’s going to happen if that pit bull tries to attack me or my sister next? The pit bull owner came over and said, with a blank cold face, “I’m really sorry for what happened.” I said, “Who let that dog out?” She replied, “I don’t know. Like I said, I’m sorry for your loss.” I said, “That dog needs to go.” She didn’t reply to that. I started crying more.

Where is my dog’s justice? I took pictures of Sammy’s body. I had to clean the blood up in my living room. My sister says this was traumatizing for her. She said she saw everything and that it was awful.

I want the pit bull removed from my street. That’s all I ask.

Legal Consequences

The sheriff said he sent the report to LA; it’s a civil case now, he said. I have no idea what that means. They will supposedly contact me to inform me what they decide to do about the pit bull that illegally invaded my house and killed my dog.

I took pictures of my dog’s puncture wounds. He died on the spot so there were no medical bills. I buried him myself, so there were no burial bills. I adopted him three years ago. He cost $295.00 plus $600.00 for medical when his front leg was amputated a few years. Now I feel like I have nothing without my Sammy.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
Pit bulls can be vicious and dangerous. Be careful with your pets around them. It’s a painful traumatic experience to go through.

On August 20th, 2022, my fiancée and I got home around 10:45 PM to find that the two pit bulls next door had chewed through our 6 foot tall privacy fence and attacked our beloved pot belly pig, Moonpie, killing her.

She was the sweetest most gentlest animal you will ever meet. So loving, and an emotional support to me. She lived INSIDE with us and our Boxer and English Bulldog. She slept in the bed with us. I got her at four weeks old exactly. She would’ve been eight months old tomorrow, Aug 24th.

The pits tried to attack us when we tried to get to Moonpie. We had to scream for the neighbor to come get his animals. The first and ONLY thing the owner asked us was “Did they kill it?”

We haven’t received an apology, an offer to pay expenses, NOTHING. There’s much more to this!

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
I have no idea what I will do now or how I will cope with anything. I carry her blanket with me everywhere so I can smell her and have her near. I can’t sleep. I can’t eat. I can’t think. I’m just in turmoil that she was so hurt and was being mauled by these beasts and I wasn’t there to help her or save her or protect her. This has devastated me.

Legal Consequences
The owner still has BOTH pit bulls on his property. He keeps them on log chains in his fenced-in yard during the night but lets them out in his yard during the day. They still terrorize us at the fence. A criminal summons was issued yesterday. He will be charged and a court date set. This is still very new. I just don’t understand why they were allowed to keep both pit bulls when they invaded our property and killed our pet.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
While some pit bulls may not be aggressive, this is a breed that is violent and vicious in general. They need to be BANNED completely. At the very least, ANY person who owns a pit that attacks another animal or person should NEVER again be allowed to own ANY dog whatsoever. PERIOD.

These pit bulls took something precious away from our family. Robbed us of so many years with Moonpie. I will never be the same after that traumatic experience. Not ever. And this is something that just shouldn’t have ever happened in the first place. We had previously complained SEVERAL times about his pit bulls. Madison County Tennessee authorities will NOT help you!!!

For the record we have video cameras and all this was caught on them.

On July 14, 2022 I checked all my cameras then went to get a shower. 27 minutes later I went outside to take my son to an appointment and found my 13-year-old cat dead in our front yard.

I took her inside then checked the camera feed and saw we had new people moving in next door and that it was one of their two pit bulls that they had let out of their house that then came running over to our house, ran up on our deck, chased my cat off the deck, then pooped on our deck, then ran into the front yard, saw my cat again and chased her down, mauled and killed her in her own yard. The pit bull owners pulled the pit off her but it was too late. She raised her head. They ignored her and left with the pit bull, then proceeded to let him run loose 7 more minutes.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
I called and reported this to Animal Control. They came out but haven’t fined the people or done anything about this happening. They don’t even call me back when I reach out to them. For me and my family it’s been a huge loss because the cat was with us so many years. She was like family, so we’re all grieving and none of us can understand why nothing has been done especially since it all was caught on our cameras and all the footage, almost 10 minutes worth, was given to Animal Control along with pictures of our cat after she was killed.

Legal Consequences
None as yet although it’s still being investigated but I have very little confidence in anything being done as per how Animal Control people seem to be treating it. I didn’t have any issue with pit bulls prior to this as long as they were kept up by their owners but now that this has happened I do, and I want nothing to do with any other pits. It’s terrifying what our poor cat endured and the people deny it even happened. I’m heartbroken about this.

We need more and better laws for these dangerous breeds of dogs. There should be stiffer consequences for the owners when they allow these dogs to run unattended, unleashed or if they just cannot control them and if they attack anyone or their pets.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
This dog came through our fence after being let out and running from its own yard into ours. It attacked and killed our cat on our property and it has devastated my family.
Animal Control took four days to come out. The people weren’t fined and are denying it happened at all and state the pit bull is just a 6 month old puppy that wouldn’t hurt anything or anyone. Although they are also on the video, it seems like there will likely be no consequences to the pit bull or the owners. Keep your smaller animals in the house and do not trust that they are safe. Otherwise this happens and these people were new and just moving in. It was out of the blue and so unexpected, just be wary.

Tell us about the attack

I was in the backyard the week before Christmas in 1998 with my elderly dog, Sisly. She was an 11 lb. (5 kg) Pomapoo. Mostly blind and deaf, she was enjoying the snowflakes landing on her face. Out of nowhere a small, black pit bull came running and grabbed her before I even knew what was happening. I remember pounding on the pit bull and it felt like solid rock.

It was 4:00 am and my screams woke up the entire neighborhood.  The police came from four different towns because people thought I was being murdered. The pit bull was gone by the time they arrived.

To make a long story short, it killed her right in front of me.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?

I’ve had two dogs since my Sisly and am prepared now for anything. I would not live through that again. I’m prepared now to do what ever it takes to protect another pet or person from pit bulls.

Legal Consequences
None. No pit bull or owner was ever found.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
While it’s true that any type of dog can be vicious, not every type of dog is capable of turning viciousness into a killing act. I believe with pits especially there’s a ‘trigger’ in some of them that’s a ticking time bomb: no matter how well they are raised and taken care of.

Since Sisly’s slaughter in her own backyard, the frequency of pit bull attacks has gotten worse and worse. 20 years ago you didn’t hear these stories every other day.

Pit bulls are too unpredictable and inherently dangerous. There should be a ban on them.

Westies

Pit bull invades house to kill two dogs inside

Tell us about the attack

Jeff was recovering from a major stroke, and had his two little white Westies for his best friends. They were usually together, running alongside each other, full of life and love.

Jeff’s stroke had been so severe that he needed round-the-clock care. But, his caregivers weren’t needed for a couple of hours each week. That was when his ex-wife (but still good friend) would come by and help him with a walker, to get in a car and go to church, and sometimes a meal after.

One day, when he was brought back home after their outing, the first thing that hit him upon entering the house was THE BLOOD, everywhere! And then he and his ex-wife saw pieces of his dogs.

The neighbor’s pit bull had broken through its fence and invaded Jeff’s yard and house to kill the dogs inside.

Yes, the pit bull was euthanized but for a man such as Jeff already in a difficult way health-wise a disaster. Such a shock. And such a setback.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
Jeff is my friend, I’m just sharing his story as he isn’t able to.

Legal Consequences
Jeff was too ill to take on much in terms of legal battles. Getting the pit bull euthanized and threatening the neighbor about never having another one was about it.

Pit bull causes severe, permanent damage

Tell us about the attack

My younger brother was walking with a girlfriend and her dog in a city park when an unleashed pit bull attacked. The girlfriend’s dog was killed by the pit bull. My brother needed to be taken to the hospital and will have permanent damage to his arm and hand.

As for me, I was attacked by a next door neighbor’s four pit bulls when they invaded by property and ran into my open garage. Luckily I did not have any injuries.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
Myself and my family are fearful of pit bulls and possible injuries they could cause. My little brother has expressed fear of all dogs as a result.

Legal Consequences
My brother’s case seems to have been largely forgotten. He has never received a penny for medical expenses or any victim compensation. No lawyer would take his case as the pit bull owner was a felon and had no money.

I have now reported my neighbor’s pit bulls to the police twice and have seen no consequences.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
Pit bulls can be dangerous and have the strength and temperament to cause severe damage.

A pit bull destroyed my son’s future

My son Dexter and his dog were outside on November 16th, 2021 about 5:30 pm in our own backyard. This girl was walking her two pit bulls in the nearby park. One got away from her. I screamed to my son, “get your dog in now”. But by the time I got to the back door, the pit bull was already attacking my son’s dog. My son was fighting off the pit bull. Once the pit bull let go, my boyfriend grabbed Dexter’s dog and brought him inside. Then the pit bull went for my son. My son got mauled by the pit bull in the throat. He was in ICU for days on a ventilator.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?

We are scared to let our dog outside anymore into our backyard due to other pit bulls in the park.

My son’s life totally changed. With his vocal cords and air channel punctured, he has a hard time breathing and gasps in the mornings. He has to watch what he eats. He dropped out of school. The modeling that he wanted to do also is done for, owing to the scars on his throat.

We have bad anxiety and bad depression because we feel like no one want to help us.

Legal Consequences
The trailer park did nothing. We are fighting to have the pit bull put down. The female pit bull owner hid the pit bull and acted like she didn’t own any. Court has been being postponed 7 months now, it is just frustrating.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
People ain’t getting insurance on their pit bulls, so you can’t sue them. Honestly, I think there should be a change.

Please fight against pit bulls being used as service dogs:  they attack pets, children, elderly people, etc.

Saturday morning I was taking Cavachon dog out on a leash in our side yard. I saw a loose pit bull in our front yard. It instantly ran at us. There was no car to jump on, nor any weapon to use, so I tried to use my voice as a weapon to keep it away, yelling at it.

I tried to get into my backyard, kicking at the pit bull three to four times to keep it away from us. The last time I kicked, I kicked so hard that I lost balance and was going to fall backwards on head, but I was able to turn so that I’d land over my dog to protect him. I was on my knees. The pit bull was smelling under me trying to get at my dog. The pit bull was two feet from my face and was salivating. I was scared it would bite us and latch onto us. I was able to get up to the back porch and into the house, even though the pit bull tried to block us.

How has your life changed as a result of the attack?
The owners of the pit bull are denying it could have happened, and refuse to take any responsibility for it, so even though I’m the victim, I get to pay for all the medical. I have been off work for weeks now. I live  paycheck to paycheck as it is. I have a badly impacted wrist fracture and cast. If I don’t heal, the doctor said I may need a plate.

I’m scared to even step off the back porch now, or to be in our yard. The dog and I are cheated out of our walks. I cried one night for thirty minutes with fear before taking our dog out at bedtime. I wanted to put a kennel in the yard so we’ll be safe when I take the dog out, but the husband doesn’t want one.

Legal Consequences
I don’t think the pit bull owner got a ticket or faced any repercussions since he denied it had anything to do with his pit bull. The police officer would like to rewrite the ordinance.

What would you like people to know as a result of your attack?
I will now carry a sawed-off ski pole on walks, maybe in the yard too. I am not sure if I’d want the media to contact me, but it seems we have to do something or it will happen again.
