Pit bull activists in Missouri are STILL trying to pass a state law preventing towns in Missouri from banning pit bulls. Now they are trying to sneak-attach the bill onto other bills to do with budgets and COVID-19. Tell Missouri Senators to reject this attempt! Dear Honorable Missouri Senators,
Please strike Section 67.142 of House Committee Substitute Bill SB 725. Section 67.142 prohibits local governments from enacting breed-specific laws. Leaving this provision in the amendment could kill the whole bill.
Section 67.142 has also been added to House Committee Substitute Bills: SB 523, SB 594, SB 544, SB 600 and SB 774. Please see below for a full list of links to these substitute omnibus bills.
Section 67.142 is extremely controversial. House Speaker Elijah Haahr specifically told the Special Committee on Regulatory Oversight and Reform to keep out controversial bills.
Section 67.142 has nothing to do with Covid-19 or the state budget.
Section 67.142 has never been heard or vetted by the Senate.
Section 67.142 is a local control issue. It is not an issue for the state to determine.
Because pit bulls mutilate and kill more people than all other dog breeds combined, the state should not interfere with the right of local governments to proactively protect their citizens. (See here for an up-to-date list of recent pit bull attacks:
